Install VirtualBox. Twitter id. Many of you may already have VirtualBox, but if you don't, click here to download. When you make a new virtual machine (i.e. A guest OS) with VirtualBox it will, by default, make the NIC an Am79C973. Whilst this NIC may be supported by many OSes, this particular NIC does not seem to be supported by CentOS 7. This means that the only NIC which will show up inside your new CentOS 7 VM will be the loopback NIC.

I was hoping to get some clarity on why the VirtualBox Guest Additions version is causing issues on one of our systems. We're trying to create a Vagrant base box for our developers from a CentOS/7 base box. The CentOS base box does not come with VirtualBox Guest Additions installed by default, so we're installing the Guest Additions via the vagrant-vbguest plugin to use the VirtualBox shared folder. Our desktops are managed by IT and are using Virtual Box version 6.1.6 r137129 (Qt5.6.2), so when we install the VirtualBox Guest additions on our vagrant box, the plugin will automatically install version 6.1.6. This 6.1.6 version of the guest additions results in a java.nio.file.NoSuchFileException in one of the Maven builds. The file causing the exception does exist, and this exception results in a failed build.
We found that downgrading the VirtualBox Guest Additions to version 6.0.4r128413 (this version was working with another Vagrant box) resolved the exception. We've also tried different versions of the VirtualBox Guest Additions. Versions 6.0.6, 6.1.6, and 6.1.16 all reproduced the same exception, which leads us to believe this is a VirtualBox-related issue. According to the 6.0 Changelog, there was a fix for version 6.0.6 'Linux guests: shared folder performance and reliability improvements and missing features' that could be related to this issue.
